TDC Mobil and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) have launched the BlackBerry® Pearl™ smartphone in Denmark, expanding the portfolio of BlackBerry® models available to TDC customers.

The small, smart and stylish BlackBerry Pearl is ideal for mobile professionals looking for a powerful, compact and lightweight smartphone in a traditional mobile phone form factor. In addition to popular and proven features such as phone, "push-based" email, text messaging, organizer and other mobile applications, the BlackBerry Pearl also includes a digital camera, media player and an expandable memory slot.

Like other BlackBerry smartphones, the Pearl is much more than just a mobile phone. The BlackBerry platform is also optimized for wireless efficiency with data compression that results in lower data usage and longer battery life. » read more »

Tele2 Signs Agreement With TDC On Access To The Swedish Mobile Network

Tele2 has signed an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) agreement with TDC. This means that, as an MVNO lessee, the Danish operator has gained access to Tele2's GSM and 3G networks in Sweden. It is expected that the agreement will come into effect early in 2008 and have a validity term of five years.

- Competition is good both for consumers and for the growth and development of the industry we work in. Our agreement with TDC means that Swedish users of mobile telephony services are now offered a new alternative to choose from and that Tele2 will make increased profits on their current assets, says Niclas Palmstierna, CEO of Tele2 Sweden.

In the past, Tele2 has granted leases for its Swedish mobile network to Spring Mobil, Ventelo and Telenor and it is looking forward to opening up its network to more operators.

Starting in April, Telia’s customers in Sweden can start watching international football games and matches from the premier division of the Swedish football league right on their mobile phones. This new mobile television service is the result of a four-year agreement that Telia has signed to get the exclusive rights to broadcast Swedish football games on mobile phones. The agreement covers both live broadcasts and post-match summaries.

In the first phase, Telia customers will be offered live broadcasts of premier division games as part of the television programming package available through Telia’s SurfPort mobile portal.
Vodafone launches mobile management service for assistance teams

Vodafone yesterday launched MobileTasks, the third of a group of exclusive services dedicated to the business market (going by the name of MobileSolutions), and which consists of a solution for the management of assistance teams, on the move and in real time.

In fact, nowadays one of the greatest challenges to the business market, for those who have teams of technicians stationed outside the office, is precisely how to guarantee a service of high quality and response periods suitable to their Clients' expectations. Organization, response capacity and quality of service are factors essential for the success of an assistance network.

MobileTasks is here to make these teams' tasks easier, allowing them to optimize their capacity: the technicians are able to receive work orders and give indications on the work being carried out, without having to go to the office, thus saving precious travel time and becoming more readily available for other subsequent interventions. At the same time, at the office there is a clear picture of the state of the tasks pending and those attributed to each technician, allowing for the satisfaction of Clients' queries whenever necessary. » read more »

Nokia Sues Qualcomm for Patent Exhaustion in Germany and the Netherlands

Nokia announced today that it has filed complaints against Qualcomm in Germany and the Netherlands requesting declarations that Qualcomm's European patents are exhausted in respect of products placed on the European Union (EU) market with a Qualcomm license, in this instance chipsets supplied by Texas Instruments. Texas Instruments and Qualcomm are publicly known to have entered into a so called Patent Portfolio License in 2000.

If Nokia's claim succeeds, Qualcomm would be prevented in Europe from enforcing its respective patents in relation to Nokia handsets incorporating such chipsets.

The complaints were filed in the Regional Court of Mannheim (Germany) and in the Hague District Court (the Netherlands); both courts have substantial experience in patent matters within the EU.

Since the early 90's Nokia has invested approximately €30 billion in research and development and built one of the wireless industry's strongest and broadest IPR portfolios with over 11,000 patent families. Nokia is a world leader in the development of GSM technologies, and its evolution to WCDMA, which is also demonstrated by Nokia's strong patent position in these technologies. » read more »
