Ericsson, Telstra Use Mobile Softswitch Innovation to Lift Mobile-Network Efficiency

Ericsson, Telstra Use Mobile Softswitch Innovation to Lift Mobile-Network Efficiency
April 2, 2008, 12:30 (CET)

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) is assisting Australia's Telstra to simplify its mobile network by deploying the world's first Mobile Softswitch Solution based on highly efficient blade technology. It will also reduce the energy use of the softswitch by up to 60 percent per subscriber.

Telstra started this transformation in 2007 when it became the first operator in the world to implement a common GSM-WCDMA Mobile Switching Center-Server (MSC-S) pool network, which is now in full commercial service. Commercial implementation of the next-generation Mobile Softswitch Solution using the new MSC-S Blade Cluster has just started.

This innovative technology provides ultra-high capacity, supporting up to eight million subscribers with only two cabinets. The footprint can be as little as 10 percent of that for existing servers, reducing energy consumption. » read more »

Ericsson Wins Multivendor Spare Parts Management Service Contract with Telefónica Mexico

August 29, 2007 -- Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) will provide a comprehensive spare parts management service for the GSM network of Telefónica Mexico. Ericsson will manage multivendor spare-parts supply and logistics for radio access, transmission and core network.

The multi-year contract also includes ecology management for the disposal of hardware units, as well as logistics, deliveries and service performance reporting to help increase the operator's efficiency. These services components will be applied to Ericsson equipment as well as third-party product vendors of transmission and power. This will reduce the complexity in Telefonica's multivendor support environment, as Ericsson will act as single interface towards other vendors.

Telefonica will benefit from cost reduction in logistics and management as well as improved spare parts handling procedures. This will enable Telefonica to focus more on its core business of delivering innovative solutions to their customers.

The deal builds upon Ericsson's longstanding relationship with Telefónica and leverages its local presence in Mexico. » read more »

Ericsson New WCDMA/HSPA Network Supplier for Elisa in Finland

August 13, 2007, 13:00 (CET) -- Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has been chosen by Finnish operator Elisa to deliver WCDMA/HSPA network equipment, taking the longstanding relationship between the two companies to a new level. The expansion will virtually double the coverage and capacity of Elisa's existing WCDMA/HSPA network.

Under the contract, Ericsson will more than double the number of radio base stations in the Elisa network over the coming year. By the end of the year, more than 120 towns and cities will have 3G coverage, strengthening Elisa's position as a leading Finnish 3G/HSPA network operator and service provider. Elisa chose Ericsson for the expansion project following a successful pilot that concluded earlier this year.

Ericsson's High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) solution provides increased data speeds by introducing enhancements in the uplink and the downlink. The advanced technology boosts network capacity and cuts response times for interactive services, increasing the performance of mobile broadband.
