GPRS handsets will continue to make up a significant portion of the cellular handset market, especially in emerging regional markets, while the momentum behind 3G/3.5G, and its successors, emphasizes requirements for multi-mode and multi-band architectures. GaAs device manufacturers demonstrated products at both ends of the spectrum.

Communications Delivered by IMS-Ready Mobile Service

Telecommunications operator Telefónica SA is delivering anywhere, anytime communications in Spain with its Mobile Attendant service. The new service, powered by a Nortel* IMS-ready solution and providing personalised communications for businesses, was introduced by Telefónica at the recent 3GSM World Congress 2007 in Barcelona, Spain.

Telefónica's Mobile Attendant delivers a consistent communications experience between its wireless and wireline networks wherever needed. For example, film crews on location or construction crews in a remote region can receive advanced and personalized communications in a specific location at any time.

Mobile Attendant is one of Telefónica's first steps towards a Fixed Mobile Converged Multimedia Network, offering a more effective communication experience to users across multiple access networks.

Hantro and austriamicrosystems announced a licensing agreement for Hantro’s 7100 VC-1 video decoding technology on austriamicrosystems’ new Mobile Entertainment platform. Hantro’s 7100 VC-1 decoder conforms with Microsoft’s PlaysForSure V2.0 specification and delivers QCIF+ Windows Media Video decoding performance on the AS3525/7 Mobile Entertainment platform.
