Telenor Pakistan Launches Solar-Powered Repeater Site

28 January, 2008 - Telenor Pakistan has launched another environmentally-friendly initiative by using solar energy to power one of its repeater sites.

Telenor Pakistan is the country's first mobile communications services provider to have started using solar energy to power a commercial site.

"We are first in the industry to have started using solar energy to power a commercial site. We aim to help reduce the load on the national power grid through innovative solutions and in longer term we mean to upscale this pilot project to other parts of the country after assessing its success", said Chief Technical Officer Telenor Pakistan Peter Anthony Dindial.

A repeater, as the name suggests, is a tool that picks up, amplifies and transmits the cell phone signals to and fro the nearest base station. Repeaters are used by mobile operators to increase network coverage in a confined area, either indoor or outdoor.

Telenor Pakistan Reaches 15 Million Customers

January 16, 2008 -- Telenor Pakistan now has passed 15 million customers - a landmark it has achieved in less than three years of operations.

In 2007, the company grew nearly 200 per cent in terms of customers, experiencing the highest growth in the industry in Pakistan by a wide margin compared to its competitors.

Ericsson New WCDMA/HSPA Network Supplier for Elisa in Finland

August 13, 2007, 13:00 (CET) -- Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has been chosen by Finnish operator Elisa to deliver WCDMA/HSPA network equipment, taking the longstanding relationship between the two companies to a new level. The expansion will virtually double the coverage and capacity of Elisa's existing WCDMA/HSPA network.

Under the contract, Ericsson will more than double the number of radio base stations in the Elisa network over the coming year. By the end of the year, more than 120 towns and cities will have 3G coverage, strengthening Elisa's position as a leading Finnish 3G/HSPA network operator and service provider. Elisa chose Ericsson for the expansion project following a successful pilot that concluded earlier this year.

Ericsson's High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) solution provides increased data speeds by introducing enhancements in the uplink and the downlink. The advanced technology boosts network capacity and cuts response times for interactive services, increasing the performance of mobile broadband.

Telenor acquires Tele2 Denmark

Telenor has entered into an agreement with Tele2 for the acquisition of its subsidiary Tele2 Denmark for a price representing an enterprise value of DKK 835 million. "The acquisition of Tele2 Denmark enables us to secure the number-two position within both broadband and mobile in Denmark," said Morten Karlsen Sørby, Head of Telenor Nordic.

Tele2 Denmark has, as of year end 2006, 227.000* mobile customers, including 100.000 post-paid subscribers, 75.000 broadband customers, 206.000 fixed-line customers. This acquisition boosts Telenor's Danish mobile market share from 23,3 to 27,3** percent and broadband market share from 10 to 14 percent.

2007-05-09 -- Stockholm - Tele2 AB, ("Tele2"), (Stockholm Stock Exchange: TEL2 A and TEL2 B), Europe's leading alternative telecom operator, today announced that it has sold its Danish operations including fixed, broadband and mobile businesses to Telenor. Telenor will pay in cash approximately MSEK 1,025. Completion is expected end of June following approval from Danish Competition Authorities.

Tele2 has built a strong operation in Denmark. However, as the market evolves and competition increases it has become evident that there is a need for a more infrastructure based approach both when it comes to broadband and mobile services.
