01/24/2008 -- At a gala celebration held last night in Stockholm, winners of the 2007 SurfPort Awards – the Nordic and Baltic region's best mobile content services for SurfPort – were announced. The winners were chosen from six different categories.
"Those of us on the jury had great fun, but an extremely difficult task selecting the 2007 winners," says Indra Åsander, Head of TeliaSonera's mobile content services for the European region. "It has been tremendously exciting to see so many excellent, creative ideas within the area of mobile content services," she says.
Best newcomer – the prize goes to the Norwegian bank, DNB.
During 2007, DNB Mobile Banking Services introduced a complete line of banking services designed for a mobile platform. By doing so, they proved that it is possible to provide these services in a way that is both safe and user friendly.
Best service for user-generated content – the prize goes to Moblogas Impartner from Lithuania.
05/09/2007 -- The worst nightmare for all dog owners would be to lose their darling pet. However, Sweden’s 700,000 dog owners can soon keep better track of their doggy with the help of their mobile phone and a GPS receiver that is attached to the dog’s collar. If an SMS message is sent to the GPS unit, it replies by sending an SMS or MMS message with text or a map image indicating where the dog is located.
Every year approximately 15,000 dogs disappear now and then from their owners and many have wished for a simple way to find their runaway pet. The companies Petlink Development and M-Tech have therefore developed a GPS receiver for dogs, which owners can use to find their pet using GPS navigation and mobile communications.
Petlink has chosen to use a Telia subscription in the GPS unit in order to have the best possible mobile coverage. The subscription costs SEK 79 per month and can be connected to all models of mobile phones, regardless of the type of subscription. In mid-May, the product will have its world premier and will be available for purchase in around 40 pet stores in Sweden.
In April, Sony Ericsson’s W880i was the unchallenged best seller, ranking No. 1 on Telia’s Top Ten List of mobile phone sales in April in Sweden. The list reflects the market battle between Sony Ericsson and Nokia – every other phone on the list comes from one of these mobile manufacturers. Nokia’s newest mobile, the N95, entered the list in April, capturing eighth place.
One out of three phones on the month’s Top Ten List was a 3G-enabled handset. Nine out of ten are camera phones and eight out of ten have an e-mail function and Mp3 music player.
