Best use of mobile in events' and 'Best use of mobile in brand building'

January 24, 2008 -- O2 and Mobile Interactive Group (MIG) have been shortlisted for 'Best use of mobile in events' and 'Best use of mobile in brand building' at the 2008 Mobile Marketing Awards, for delivering a host of next generation mobile interactive services at The O2 - The world's first fully interactive venue and interactive brand experience.

David Wheldon, Global Director of Brand at Vodafone and Chairman of the Judges commented on the calibre of the entries, "When we launched the awards in 2005, we saw a number of small brands trying out the channel for the first time with pretty rudimentary campaigns. It was encouraging but clearly there was some way to go. This year, the 80 plus award entries came from some of the world's biggest brands and the campaigns were multi-faceted and sophisticated. Mobile is now very much part of the marketing mix." » read more »

O2 incentivises mobile users to make an environmental difference

* 7.5kg CO2 emission per new handset the equivalent of the internal space of a family car
* Existing customers who keep their phone receive £95 credit and O2 will give £10 to O2 Energy Saver fund on their behalf
* O2 to donate £5 to O2 Energy Saver fund when any new customers sign up for the O2 Energy Saver option tariff

As part of the We're in this together campaign O2 today announced the launch of O2 Energy Saver options. These options will offer owners of the 70million active handsets in the UK simple ways to reduce the environmental impact from their mobile behaviour.

Each handset contains between 500 and 1,000 difference components and significant amount of energy is used to extract and refine these materials. The total CO2 emission from the production and distribution of an average handset is at least 7.5kg of CO2 which is the equivalent internal space of a family car. If everyone in the UK who owns a mobile delayed its replacement by a year, it would equate to 187,000 cars being removed from the road annually. » read more »
