Bango technology powers revolutionary books-on-mobile service

January 28, 2008 – Bango announced today it is powering a revolutionary new service that turns the mobile phone into a personal “on the go” library. Bango’s billing and digital fingerprint technologies have enabled Macmillan Publishing Solutions (MPS) to create The Global Reader - a new service that gives consumers access to books, articles, newspapers and other print content on their mobile phone easily and inexpensively.

The MPS service is expected to shift the publishing world because it offers publishers a new distribution channel and provides a direct link with consumers. Because the Global Reader service is mobile-web based, publishers will be able to interact directly with customers and – using Bango technology – receive detailed information about customers.

The Global Reader will enhance the way people access printed material. "We never envisioned people would want to read War and Peace on their phones," said Bob Kasher, one of the developers and originators of The Global Reader. "What we responded to was the idea that millions of people have mobile phones in their pockets." » read more »

Wireless industry’s largest device database enables growing consumer base for mobile data

Volantis, a supplier of Intelligent Content Adaptation™ solutions for the Mobile Internet, has announced expanded device coverage for carrier and content providers delivering mobile content to their subscribers. Volantis’ device database now enables the optimal presentation of unique content – covering a broad range of static, dynamic and interactive content types -- on more than more than 4,000 mobile devices worldwide.

“Wireless carriers recognize that achieving significant growth in data ARPU is only possible if content can be accessed by a broad level of the population,” said Seamus McAteer, senior analyst, M:Metrics, the mobile market authority. “The increasing device diversity we see in markets globally could present a real barrier to driving data adoption.
NEC And Kineto Partner On Femtocell Market

NEC Integrates Kineto’s UMA Network Controller (UNC) into Home Gateway Solution

NEC Corporation (NEC), a leading provider of 3G infrastructure and handsets, internet, broadband network and enterprise business solutions and Kineto Wireless, Inc., the key innovator and leading supplier of UMA technology, today announced that NEC will integrate Kineto’s UMA Network Controller (UNC) into NEC’s Home Gateway Solution.

Femtocells are small cellular base stations designed for use in residential environments that allow a user with an existing mobile phone to access cellular voice and data services over IP. Femtocells allow mobile operators to extend the reach of their 3G services to within subscriber homes by leveraging the user’s broadband connection. In addition to addressing coverage holes, femtocells give operators an opportunity to potentially shape end-user behavior by encouraging the use of 3G data services in the home femtocell where they can be faster and cheaper. » read more »

KTF CEO Young-chu Cho (www.ktf.com) held a press conference on the 28th to announce the launch of KTF’s HSDPA service – a world first – reaching 99% of the population.

Construction and Building a Nationwide HSDPA Network

The KTF construction of HSDPA lines across the country involved 1 year and 5 months of concentrated work in building the lines themselves and also in quality improvement. Through these efforts, KTF was able to improve on existing CDMA standards and ensure the same quality anywhere in Korea with the uniform network possible with HSDPA. » read more »

Vodafone Announces New Flat-Rate Data Roaming Tariff

Vodafone continues to lead the mobile industry in reducing the cost of roaming in Europe

Vodafone announced that customers in Europe will be able to surf the internet, check e-mail and access their business network when roaming abroad for a flat rate fee of only €12 for every day of use. The tariff will be available to Vodafone customers with mobile-enabled laptops from 1 July 2007 and will significantly lower the cost of data roaming for business customers and consumers alike.

This move is the latest development in Vodafone’s drive to simplify roaming prices, making them more predictable and understandable for customers. The initiative draws upon two years’ experience of the voice roaming tariff - Vodafone Passport - which has already attracted over 12m customers. Following the introduction of daily data tariffs in a number of Vodafone markets last year, Vodafone is now seeking to extend these benefits to customers throughout Europe who wish to use their laptops when travelling. » read more »

Vodafone Cuts Mobile Internet Roaming Rate By Almost Half To Domestic Level

The cost of mobile data services in other countries is about to get a lot lower for Vodafone customers. Business executives and holidaymakers can look forward to CeBIT because, when it opens on 15 March 2007, Vodafone will be reducing the rates of its national and international WebSessions packages - which enable 24-hour mobile internet use without a contract or an additional basic fee - to EUR 14.95.

It now makes no difference whether customers use their notebooks to go online in the German Vodafone network, a foreign Vodafone network or a Vodafone partner network. They pay the same rate for mobile online services in foreign countries that they pay at home. That's an almost 50% price reduction that makes mobile internet via the wireless network far less expensive than many W-LAN hotspots. Vodafone customers in Germany who have booked a data option can also take advantage of the WebSessions package abroad. The number of roaming countries around the world where Vodafone WebSessions International can be used will increase to 32 in April 2007. » read more »

Mobile Data

Mobile Data

A wireless service that enables the two-way transmission of information between wireless or landline devices. In a mobile phone, for example, mobile data would use the transceiver in the phone to exchange information between the phone and a data network. The information to be transferred can be in a phone, a PC or PDA connected to the phone. The other end of the connection can be any device that can be contacted through the network, e.g. e-mail server, Internet, another PC. (Motorola)

Vodafone to demonstrate fastest mobile data transmission service in a wireless network at CeBIT

Vodafone to demonstrate fastest mobile data transmission service in a wireless network at CeBIT

Düsseldorf, 26th February 2007. Anyone who wants to find out more about the simple and high-speed mobile transmission of large data volumes should call in at Vodafone's CeBIT pavilion, because that's where the innovation leader will be demonstrating the fastest mobile data connection in a commercial German mobile network, which delivers speeds of up to 7.2 MBits/s. It is clear confirmation that Vodafone is, once again, a first mover in the mobile broadband services market. The Vodafone pavilion G04 in the open-air zone to the south of CeBIT's hall 25 in Hanover will also be demonstrating an uplink with transmission rates of up to 1.45 MBits/s. That's faster than any conventional DSL broadband service. This is possible thanks to the use of High Speed Uplink Packet Access Technology (HSUPA). » read more »
