TACS (Total Access Communication System)

A mobile telephone standard originally used in Britain for the 900 MHz frequency band. (Ericsson)

Total Access Communication System or TACS is the European version of AMPS. ETACS was an extended version of TACS with more channels. TACS and ETACS are now obsolete in Europe, having been replaced by the more scalable and all-digital GSM system. NMT is another analog cellular standard that was widely used in Europe, mainly in the nordic countries. The NMT system has now been completely replaced by GSM and WCDMA. (Wikipedia)
