AT&T Adds New Wireless Coverage to Newton

WESTWOOD, Mass., March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) announced today that Cingular, now AT&T and the nation's largest wireless carrier, has turned on a new cell site in Newton, Massachusetts.

The new site brings enhanced coverage to the company's wireless customers along Route 9 and Hammond Pond Parkway as well as to the area around Chestnut Hill Malls, supporting increased customer traffic in the area.

In addition to this new cell site, AT&T added more than 95 cell sites in New England last year. At the end of 2006, the company's two-year network investment in the New England region surpassed half a billion dollars. The company also recently completed the integration of its legacy Cingular and AT&T Wireless cell sites to establish a single, enhanced network.

"With the addition of new cell sites and the completion of the integration of the two networks, the wireless experience for our customers in Massachusetts has improved dramatically, equal to what other wireless carriers complete over several years," said Steve Krom, vice president and general manager of AT&T's wireless operations in New England. "In fact, we have increased the number of cell sites for our customers in the state by nearly 80 percent in the last two years."

This local investment is part of AT&T's estimated $6 billion national network capital expenditure program during 2006. Over the last two years, AT&T has spent more than $13.5 billion nationally in an aggressive program to upgrade and expand wireless service and now gives customers access to some 45,000 cell sites.
