June 21, 2006 -- Vancouver, B.C. – TELUS today announced the ability to exchange multimedia messages with customers of some of the United States' largest mobile carriers. TELUS clients with MMS-capable mobile phones can now instantly send and receive messages with rich content to and from the MMS-capable phones of friends, family and business contacts in the U.S.“TELUS is constantly creating innovative ways to make communicating with friends, family and colleagues easy, regardless of where they live and do business, said Robert Blumenthal, TELUS senior vice president of Products and Services. “Today's announcement gives TELUS clients the ability to exchange multimedia messages, including their favourite photos and videos with loved-ones across the border.
MMS, also known as picture or video messaging, allows clients to send photos, video clips, graphics, audio clips or combinations of these files to other MMS-capable phones or to any e-mail address world wide.
Until today, TELUS clients could only exchange MMS messages with other Canadian mobile phone users, but a mobile phone user in the U.S. receiving an MMS message from a TELUS client would see a Web link on their mobile phone through which they could then view the message from a computer. Now, sending an MMS message is just as fast and simple as sending a text message to a recipient's mobile phone number.
The ability to share multimedia messages between TELUS and these U.S. carriers was made possible through the use of the VeriSign Inter Carrier Multi Media Messaging (ICMMS) Service, a managed service that enables interoperability of wireless carriers' multimedia messaging service centers and the exchange of messages across networks with different technologies. VeriSign, the leading provider of intelligent infrastructure services for the Internet and telecommunications networks, will maintain the service on an ongoing basis for the carriers.
To send a MMS message, TELUS clients can follow the simple instructions on their MMS-capable mobile phone or visit telusmobility.com/on/wweb/picture_messaging.shtml.
TELUS clients can send MMS messages for 25 cents per picture, sound or voice message and 50 cents each for video attachments, or get included MMS messaging when subscribing to a SPARK feature bundle.

6/19/2006 -- This summer Telia will be broadcasting television programs to mobile phones through a terrestial digital TV network using Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld (DVB-H) technology. The test, to be conducted in the cities of Gothenburg and Stockholm in Sweden, will be launched in the beginning of August. The trial broadcasts will use DVB-H, a technology based on the same principle as terrestrial broadcast television that allows many users to watch live broadcast programmes at the same time. In contrast to 3G, DVB-H has no limitations when it comes to the number of simultaneous viewers and the technology also offers improved picture and audio quality in mobile handsets.
"Our customers are becoming more and more interested in watching television on mobile phones and we are constantly working on improving and expanding our range of programming through our Telia SurfPort mobile portal," says Anders Bruse, head of products and services at TeliaSonera Sweden. "That's why it feels natural for us to test this new technology, which will provide additional broadcast quality improvements for our customers."
The pilot test will start in the beginning of August and will be conducted in selected areas of Gothenburg and Stockholm. The test is being carried out in co-operation with Nokia, which will provide the DVB-H-system and the multi-media mobile phone N92.
Telia has been granted a three-month test licence for broadcasting television services to mobile phones with DVB-H technology.
In 2004, Telia was the first operator in the world to offer customers live television broadcasts to mobiles from the Summer Olympics in Athens. Telia's mobile television initiative with 3G has resulted in nine channels on the Telia SurfPort portal and the range of programming is being broadened on a continuous basis.
