Purchase, NY, 05.10.2006 - Have you ever needed an ATM and not known where to find one? For tourists and businesspeople traveling far from home, that is an all-too-familiar predicament. But a new cell phone service from MasterCard now promises to make such situations a thing of the past.
MasterCard now provides cardholders with a mobile, location-based search and directory service so they can request the location of the nearest ATM be sent to their cell phone via SMS text message.Customers simply call 1-877-FIND-ATM, and state their coordinates to request the location of the nearest MasterCard ATM. They can then choose to have a text message sent to their cell phone detailing the location of the nearest teller. The new service, which works will all major mobile carriers in the U.S. is provided by MasterCard to cardholders free of charge (carrier text message rates may apply).
Each year, two million cardholders contact MasterCard via either telephone or the website (www.mastercard.com/atmlocator) specifically to find the location of nearby ATMs; some 70 percent of inquiries are received from international travelers venturing outside their home country.
"MasterCard's new SMS option for ATM Locator provides an invaluable service to cardholders," said Jonathan Cetnarski, senior vice president, Information Products and Services at MasterCard Advisors. "People don't always have a pen or paper handy to write the ATM locations down, so SMS becomes an intuitive and convenient way to get the information they need. Travelers can finally go paperless in confidence."
MasterCard's new SMS offering augments the company's existing telephone- and web-based ATM Locator services, which lists over one million ATM locations worldwide. While these services have proven useful, MasterCard analysis of call data revealed that cardholders were too often scrambling to write down the ATM location during the voice-activated locator service.
The voice-activated ATM Locator application is provided by Convergys Corporation, which built the application for MasterCard. Hosted on Convergys' SpeechPortTM platform, incoming calls are received and processed via SpeechPort, which uses a variety of speech recognition technologies to comprehend the caller's request and play back the appropriate information. SpeechPort then sends the caller's coordinates to MasterCard, which in turn accesses and provides ATM locations from a central data bank. If callers request an SMS, MasterCard passes the ATM location data to Mobile 365, which then routes the SMS text to the caller's mobile carrier. Mobile 365 has direct connections into more than 250 of the world's leading mobile operators.
The Convergys SpeechPort platform offers flexibility and scale to not only handle the millions of inquiries from MasterCard cardholders, but also the seasonal call spikes that the ATM Locator application receives. The platform also provides redundancy, security, and robust monitoring and reporting information to help MasterCard effectively manage the ATM Locator application.

Madrid, Spain and London, UK – September 27, 2006 -- mBlox, the world’s largest mobile transaction network, today announces that it is working with application service provider Dynetic to deliver an exciting new SMS re-bidding service to eBay in Spain. The service, which will enable users to be close to eBay whenever they need to, will be powered using mBlox mobile terminated and originated premium SMS services. The launch of eBay’s mobile service underscores SMS’ ability to enable practical consumer services and produce real business advantages.
eBay is the world’s largest online marketplace, with a global customer base of 181 million users. The company’s mission is to provide a global trading platform where practically anyone can trade practically anything at anytime. SMS re-bidding upholds this mission and is a natural extension of eBay’s online auction as surveys indicate that two-thirds of all eBay bidders are away from their computers during the final stages of an auction. eBay’s SMS re-bidding service enables users to track bids through “outbid alerts and react quickly from their mobile should they need to increase a bid. The service, which costs 20 euro cents plus VAT per message, will be offered to users as an option when a bid is placed online.eBay Spain one of the first major online retailers to incorporate SMS fully into its core business model. The simplicity and ease with which people can buy and sell with each other on eBay’s online marketplace is central to eBay’s success. eBay’s selection of a distinct mobile transaction network and application provider to provide an innovative re-bidding solution confirms the unique ability that specialized companies have to develop innovative, reliable and efficient mobile solutions. mBlox and Dynetic’s SMS solution for eBay incorporates the companies’ best of breed services, in transaction network services and application development respectively, to create a mobile solution that could meet eBay’s exacting standards.
Para Maria Calvo, General Manager of eBay Spain, said, “mBlox demonstrated a thorough understanding of our business requirements and the mobile value proposition we wanted to offer. They applied our business strategy to the SMS world and worked closely with Dynetic to deliver a complete, reliable mobile solution that fits our precise needs, making this the optimal solution for eBay and our customers.
Michael Neidhoefer, CEO of Dynetic, said,“We worked closely with eBay to develop a rebidding application that would meet their exacting standards. Early on we recognized that in order for the mobile solution to be optimal for eBay, we needed a superior mobile transaction network on which to run the service. mBlox’s total focus on the mobile transaction network, carrier-grade network infrastructure and mobile knowledge made them the ideal partner to help realize this mobile solution.
Jeff Clark, CEO of mBlox, said, “On any given day there are millions of items listed on eBay across thousands of different categories, and now there is no reason for eBay’s Spanish customers to lose out in an auction. We’re proud that the strength of our mobile transaction network, paired with Dynetic’s innovative re-bidding application, can deliver the kind of reliable messaging performance necessary to power eBay’s mobile service and keep millions of eBay customers informed of the status of their bids.
Initially the service will be promoted on the eBay Spain site but mBlox and Dynamic’s solution is scalable so that the re-bidding service can be easily replicated in additional markets.
