SavaJe Technologies Establishes Joint R&D Facility With Hangzhou Dianzi University To Target The Mobile Market In China

New development center focused on enhancing the SavaJe Mobile Platform and creating applications around China's TD-SCDMA 3G mobile standard

Chelmsford, MA – September 25, 2006 – SavaJe Technologies, developers of the most open, Java® technology-based mobile operating platform, today announced the opening of a new research and development facility in China established in partnership with Hangzhou Dianzi University School of Computer Science and Software Engineering. The new facility will support development of SavaJe-powered media phones, smartphones and other mobile devices specifically designed for China, the world’s largest and fastest growing mobile market with an estimated 425 million mobile subscribers.To address specific requirements of Chinese handset manufacturers and wireless operators, the new research and development facility will create various enhancements to the SavaJe Mobile Platform, including Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) support, user interface localization, embedded software and Chinese-specific mobile Java applications. Jointly developed by the China Academy of Telecommunications Technology in collaboration with Datang Mobile, TD-SCDMA is China’s standard for 3G mobile communications.

The opening of the new facility coincides with SavaJe’s announcement that Longcheer Technology Limited, one of the top four independent handset designers in China, has selected the SavaJe Mobile Platform for handsets it expects to release in China and Europe.

“China has become a major development hub for mobile applications and devices, so the joint TD-SCDMA Research and Development Center provides SavaJe with an in-country presence for working directly with local partners and customers,� said John Fursdon, vice president and general manager of SavaJe China. “By collaborating with Hangzhou Dianzi University, we have immediately expanded our R&D resources to deliver on multiple agreements we have with Longcheer and other Chinese handset designers and manufacturers.�
