Musiwave, an Openwave company (Openwave Systems Inc. NASDAQ: OPWV), and a provider of mobile music entertainment services to operators and media companies worldwide, announced that T-Mobile Czech Republic selected Musiwave to provide a full-track online music store. The t-music PLAY service enables users to browse and purchase tracks which are then available for download onto a PC, for transfer to mobile devices. The service is based on a fixed and mobile converged platform, using SIM-based billing. For the first time in the Czech Republic, users can access features that enable services such as recommending and gifting tracks to their friends for both PC and mobile downloads.
The service is available on the popular Czech Republic music portal www.t-music.cz and integrated with the equally popular television and radio chart of the same name. Over the air delivery to the mobile devices will be available in the second phase of the project.
"Our customers are looking for fast and simple ways to find, take and play their favorite songs at home, at work or 'on the go.' With Musiwave we are able to deliver a huge selection of fresh and engaging tracks with an interface that is familiar and easy-to-use," said Michal Nemec, vice president of Portal & Content Services for T-Mobile Czech Republic. "Musiwave's industry knowledge and proven expertise in delivering top-quality, successful mobile music offerings made it the obvious choice."
Musiwave's service offers a catalog of more than 400,000 songs from top record labels such as Warner, EMI, SonyBMG, Universal and tracks from numerous well-known independent labels. A customized T-Mobile web store allows customers to purchase and download full tracks on their PC and transfer them to compatible mobile devices and USB MP3 players. This offering is currently available on 24 mobile handsets.
"We are excited to be providing terrific access to some of the very latest full-track downloads to T- Mobile's customers in the Czech Republic," said Guillaume Decugis, vice president and general manager, Musiwave. "Musiwave is dedicated to enabling operators to deliver exciting, personalized music packages to their subscribers, and this deployment with one of the world's biggest operator brands reinforces our leading position in global mobile music delivery."
